The willow hedge

The kitchen garden is coming on, but the chickens are a bit too fond of the new plants, so we need to try and fence it off, at least for part of the year. We are attempting to build a willow hedge, which will be like a living fence, as the saplings can be woven to create any shape you wish. We designed the shape, to work between the existing apple trees and create an area big enough for all the raised beds we have planned. Paul dug out a trench, then we cut branches from the fallen willow tree in the wood, and planted them really close together. Fingers crossed, they will root, and we will have a beautiful living wall in a few weeks time.
